Vic Priapi was raised on a vegetable farm in Aquebogue, New York. He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science. He is a Maryland Certified Professional Horticulturist. In 1979 he began working for Angelica Nurseries, Inc. in Kennedyville, as the container plant grower. In 1986 he became the company’s propagator, growing more than 750,000 plants annually by cuttings, seed, and grafting, before setting out to find his own farm.
Vic’s wife, Mary, also grew up on Long Island. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Nursing from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. Mary is a recently retired nurse practitioner. Her expertise in accounting and business management keep things flowing smoothly at the farm.
Our property was cropland before purchasing it in 2002. After building the garden center infrastructure, Vic had a spare three acres on the southern end of the property where he began growing some potatoes for himself. Customers caught on to the fact that Vic was growing vegetables organically, and wanted some for themselves! In short order, Vic and Mary had the garden certified organic with the USDA and our vegetable production has expanded every year since.
Having several highly-trained horticulturists, and many vegetable enthusiasts on staff, Priapi Gardens is poised to meet the growing needs of the gardening public, and provide healthy, local, organic vegetables to our community. Stop by and check us out for yourself! We love showing people what we do.
